Tourism Review is developing a virtual special issue on the Agenda 2030, to use theory, research and best practice from around the world to support the restart of tourism and also the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. We need to bring together all knowledge and expertise to support society and regions to develop their tourism statistically using smart do you want to achieve sustainable gains.

The global tourism and hospitality have been suffering from the effects of COVID. For the first time ever, it is so clear to everybody how important and tourism is for consumers and their mental health.

Governments have also realised the importance of tourism for regional development and the wealth, prosperity and happiness of societies, especially in peripheral and insular destinations.

Tourism Review is the most established tourism journal, in its 77th year/edition. It has been publishing innovative articles continuously since 1946; just after the second world war which also stopped any tourism activities.

The papers submitted for this virtual special issue need to include “tourism agenda 2030” in their subtitle.

They need to focus and address one of the 17 challenges of the United Nations sustainable development goals [https://sdgs.un.org/goals].

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide an opportunity for global partnership and recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies

that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Tourism as a global industry will need to be a catalyst for the achievement of SDGs towards 2030.

The Tourism Agenda 2030 should also address the entire range of opportunities and challenges as well as innovations to address: sustainability;

human resources and talent management; marketing; digital and smart technologies; finance; operational and strategic management; planning and development; culture and heritage;

transportation and multimodality; accessibility and inclusion.
