Strategic change is closely related with technology enabled competitiveness and experiences, whilst any strategic decision-making needs to take under consideration those aspects. In recent years, several studies have been dedicated to hospitality-related technological aspects, often under the prism of experience design, strategic thinking and interaction, or focusing on the artificial intelligence and robots. However, those studies have only just began to explore the underpinning strategic principles and aspects of the contribution of technology in business competitiveness and the formulation of consumer experiences. Moreover, the theoretical and applied aspects of technology in the hospitality need to be approached from a multidisciplinary point of view, to enable a better understanding of the internal and external dynamics that affect their strategic change, evolution and development.
Consumer experience in tourism and hospitality enterprises is now more important than ever as the sector has become globalised, reached maturity and became highly competitive. The pathway to success (or failure) lies on the competitiveness of enterprises and the overall customer experience and its subsequent satisfaction, which heavily depends on the technological aspects and advancements, since both individuals and societies are increasingly technologically dependent. Therefore, an SI pertaining to technology enabled competitiveness and experiences in hospitality will be highly relevant to both, industry and academia.
This special issue welcomes theoretical, empirical, experimental, and case study research contributions. These contributions should clearly address the theoretical and practical implications of the research in reference. Both conceptual and empirical work are welcome. The hospitality-related technology enabled competitiveness and experiences can be viewed under a variety of prisms, including but not limited to:
- Smart hospitality / cities / destinations / infrastructure
- Mobile technologies and applications
- Voice search and voice control
